Japanese imports offer incredible value for money. But buying one without a proper inspection can cost you thousands. Here’s what we check for Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and other JDM vehicles.

1. Compliance Status

Has the vehicle been properly complied for Australian roads? This includes side intrusion bars, child restraint anchor points, speedometer conversion, and ADR lighting compliance. Our workshop handles this daily.

2. Rust and Corrosion

Japanese imports from northern regions often have minimal rust. But coastal vehicles or those stored near salt water can have hidden corrosion. We check underbody, suspension mounts, and inside door cavities.

3. Odometer Verification

The odometer reading should match the Japanese Auction Sheet. We check for signs of tampering — worn pedals versus low km is a red flag.

4. Hybrid Battery Condition

For Toyota hybrids, the battery condition is critical. We run a full cell-level diagnostic to check for degradation, individual cell voltage, and cooling system condition.

5. Mechanical Condition

We perform a comprehensive mechanical inspection covering: engine compression, transmission operation, suspension wear, brake condition, and evidence of accident damage not declared on the auction sheet.
